Lead Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
Nick Booth has a BSc (Hons) in Speech and Language Therapy from the University of East Anglia. He is a Clinical Lead Specialist Speech and Language Therapist at ISLTS Ltd.
He specialises in the assessment and treatment of a range of speech, language and communication disorders. He treats a mixed caseload of children, young adults and adults who have a range of speech, language and communication difficulties.
His clinical interests and specialisms include:
- Speech, language and communication difficulties including disordered phonology, central auditory processing disorder and developmental language disorder
- Traumatic/acquired brain injury in children and adults
- Neurological conditions which impact speech, language and communication
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)
- Learning disability in children, adolescents, young adults and adults
Nick works closely with teachers, SENCOs, case managers, learning support assistants, Clinical Psychologists, Educational Psychologists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, other allied health professionals and associated medical professionals as part of assessment and therapy intervention.
He treats patients individually and in small groups. Nick works in clinics, in schools and colleges throughout Norfolk and Suffolk, in the patient’s home and in nursing/care homes.
He has represented parents at Educational Tribunal for children with special educational needs. Nick has also co-written and presented several training presentations for teachers, colleagues, LSAs and parents covering clinical areas such as: child language development, PDA, cerebral palsy, learning disability and acquired brain injury.
He continuously improves his clinical skills and knowledge through formal CPD training courses and has completed courses in: Pathological Demand Avoidance, Autism, Dyspraxia and Makaton Signing. He is a fetal alcohol spectrum disorder informed (FASD) clinician with a developing knowledge base about how this impacts communication and language in children and adults.
Nick is qualified to administer the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2) and works collaboratively with Clinical Psychologists and other relevant professionals within a multi-disciplinary team.
Before training as a speech and language therapist, he studied English Language and Linguistic Science at the University of York, graduating with a BA (Hons).
Areas of interest included experimental and acoustic phonetics, laboratory phonology and Psycholinguistics.
Nick Booth is a certified member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
When not at work, Nick enjoys gardening and conservation, is a beekeeping enthusiast, loves afternoon tea, and spends holidays exploring the British coast and countryside.
